SUCCESS STORY

Ms. R, a domestic violence survivor and mother of five, was referred to the Mount Vernon Resource Center when her oldest child was a toddler with special needs.

Feeling overwhelmed, alone, and hopeless, she started attending our support group, where she was able to make connections, learn from her peers, access resources for her son, and eventually gain the confidence to leave her abusive relationship.

Years later, Ms. R returned to the group for support in getting help for a younger child with behavioral challenges. Once the right connections were made, Ms. R began actively working to complete her GED. Ms. R has nearly completed her studies and continues to attend our support group where she is now helping others who are traveling the same path.
